We are Alex + Elaina
We are homesteaders located in PA. We started our homesteading journey in 2019 with a garden and then purchased our first chicks shortly after in the spring of 2020.
Around the same time that we started homesteading, we also were searching for land to build our dream homestead.
We both are passionate about living sustainability and self-sufficiently and our homesteading and building lifestyle reflect that.
What started as a traditional home search..
Quickly turned into a search for land. We found that the homes in our area fell into two categories:
1. Built in the early 1900s and needing a lot of work
2. Newly built in a development with little attention to detail.
We wanted a home that was energy efficient and had room for our growing homestead.
We determined we wanted something custom.. but we couldn't afford a custom home builder.
So we decided to self-build instead!
We are our own general contractors so that we can better control costs and construction quality. We have no formal construction experience but have both dealt with large scale projects in our professional careers as engineers.
Alex is the brains behind the house design and the physical build. He grew up in a 100-year-old farmhouse and has been building and fixing things since he was very young. We knew that the project would be a challenge but we both strongly believe that if you have a will, there is a way!
In additional to our homesteading and home goals..
We also realized very early on in our professional careers that we wanted to build a life that we didn't need to take a vacation from.
For the past 3.5 years we've worked tirelessly to make that dream a reality and just recently left the corporate world to pursue our dreams!
